DWI question?

Alright, my friend got a DWI in NC with a SC license. His 30 days are up soon. Does he need to go get his old license from the courthouse in the county he got arrested in? He has another license at his house that isn't expired. Can he just take that to the dmv to get it reinstated? Or does he even have to go, or what? We have no idea what to do. What are his options?
